For the second time in the book of Revelation we see a rider on a white horse. The first time it was the Antichrist as noted in Rev.6:2. He came offering peace while at the same time threatening to conquer the world. He came with a bow, but without arrows. This would signify that the Antichrist would be limited in conquering the world. He would need help. He didn’t know he was Satan’s slave and that his ambitions only served Satan’s purposes.
Rev.19:11
When Jesus Christ is seen on his white horse in our text today we do not see him offering peace. He is coming to make war and judge the nations. He needs no help.
He is called Faithful and True. He is forever faithful and true to his word and the integrity of the Godhead.
There are those today who put little to no stock in the Revelation of Jesus Christ. Many who call themselves Christians either ignore or dismiss the message of this revelation; however, they will be made believers when they witness these happenings. If the Lord should Rapture [snatch] his Church out today the unsaved left behind will believe something has changed, but most will believe the lies of the Antichrist, and they will be doomed. For those misinformed Christian doubters of the Revelation of Jesus Christ, as it is called in the very first verse of chapter one, they will be in heaven, and they will return with the Lord in the event of the second coming. What a shock they will experience when they find out the word of God as found in divine prophecy is true after all. They may believe in salvation by grace and be truly saved, and they may have served the Lord in various ways, but to doubt the word of the Lord concerning his future plans is most puzzling. As Gomer Pyle used to say, “Surprise, surprise, surprise.”
Next we see that Jesus Christ is said to judge the world in righteousness, not by a person’s good intentions as the religious folks will purport.
The Greek word here for righteousness is made up of a compound word, dikaiosune; dikaios meaning pious or right, and the suffix sune; which develops the idea of law or justice.
The righteousness of God includes his sense of justness. A sense of what is right, good, legal and exact is seen in this compound word.
The Word of God becomes the measure of his actions. No one will negotiate with God’s righteousness. God would be less than God if his dealings with any of mankind showed partiality as per Rom.2:11.
The wise Christian knows they cannot get over on God. The wise Christian reveres God and respects all of God’s judgments. The wise believer does not question the fairness of God.
After all, the acquittal of all guilt on our judgment day as believers will be based on the righteousness of God being satisfied with the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross. We are justified before God solely on the grounds of satisfied justice. How can believers turn up their noses at divine justice when all they have is based on this fair system of God? Are we now God’s judge? God forbid. Do we as animated dust suppose to instruct our Creator?
At the Second Coming Jesus Christ will make war with the Antichrist. Our Savior is the Stone that was cut out without hands.
This Stone will strike down the ten nation confederation and its leader, the Antichrist, Dan.2:34-35 read...
This Stone is Jesus Christ and he will make war, polemei, a military campaign. He will crush the Antichrist and the other entire world military forces gathered in the Valley of Megiddo.
v.12
John says our Lord’s eyes were like [simile], a flame of fire. This is the same Christ John saw in Rev.1:14 when he saw our Lord walking in the midst of his church. The fiery eyes depict the piercing omniscience of our all knowing God. These are the same Eyes that walk up and down the aisles of his congregation. These are the same Eyes that are with us in our trials and difficult days.
He sees through the schemes of the Antichrist just as he sees through our schemes.
John goes on to say that “on his head many crowns”. These crowns depict his many diadems, crowns as the Sovereign ruler of the world.
Ps.2 read...
“And he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.” This name is not revealed and we must not speculate here. Perhaps he will reveal this special name of His during the Millennium.
v.13
His robe is seen dipped [Perfect Passive Part.] from the Greek word, bebaumenon. Some manuscripts say this word is rantizo, to sprinkle. Either way this blood is on our Lord’s garments before the battle starts. If we look at Rev.5:6 we see the Lamb taking the scroll having the seven seals. This Lamb is Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God who has taken away the sins of the world. He is seen receiving the title deed to the world from the throne of the Father. He is also seen as though he has been slain as blood covers his front. As the God-Man and noted co-creator of the earth, Col.1:16 he is Sovereign to both the body and souls of men; perhaps he is bringing a reminder to the ungodly for whom he died that he is Lord. Perhaps he is about to take vengeance. Vengeance is mine saith the Lord, I will repay.
He is not the passive effeminate push over so many of this world want him to be.
Also His name here, which has been revealed in Scripture, is called The Word of God.
The word of God, as a title and name of our Lord, puts special emphasis on his divine authority over all his creation, especially mankind. In today’s society the notion of authority gets a bad rap, even from the word of God. Believers too often do not want a pastor who speaks with a sense of authority, though if the pastor is doing his job in teaching the Bible he must speak with authority. As pastors we have an obligation to teach whole council of God’s word and to speak it in Christ’s stead. If he were here in the flesh he would speak his word in authority. How can we do less?
John 1:1 says The Word of God is from eternity past, and that The Word is God. His word is absolute. No authority exceeds his authority though mankind has strained for thousands of years to undermine his authority. He laughs in the heavens when we attempt to circumvent his authority. He laughs when our calamity comes upon us when we bring it on ourselves by ignoring his authority, Prov.1:22-32.
Heb.4:12 says his word is living and sharp as a two edged sword. His word is final. He will have the last word.
